The Islam Channel’s legal department require a Legal Assistant to work from their Head Office 2/3 days a week to assist the in-house Solicitor. Duties may include research, preparing legal documents, drafting advices and general administration.

Areas of practice are varied and include debt recovery, contract, intellectual property, employment and litigation.

 

The ideal candidate should have a legal background and preferably have passed the Legal Practice Course. Previous legal experience would be advantageous.

Researcher/Broadcast Video Journalist/Admin Assistant

Description:

Researcher/Broadcast Video Journalist/Admin Assistant

 

The role will provide support to a wide collection of weekly current affairs programmes (see below) answering to the Head of Current Affairs by providing (under his direction) – programme topic research; sourcing of panel guests; venues and arranging/taking responsibility for logistical planning of programme shoots; preparation of programme briefs for presenters/guests; arranging interviews and managing the diary of the department head.  The role may also require involvement in the creation (filming; editing and packaging) of short news interviews/bulletins for use within the current affairs programmes.

 

The successful applicant will also share responsibility for uploading all current affairs programmes online.

 

Qualities:

 

The applicant must be articulate and have good presentation skills; a university graduate and should ideally have a broadcast video journalism background with proven experience working within current affairs/news for one or more of the mainstream TV stations/broadcasters. They should possess a strong interest in current affairs (domestic and international) issues – particularly those issues which relate to the Muslim community. Video camera journalism and editing skills should be an added advantage.

 

Current Affairs Programmes:

 

Politics & Media: In-studio panel lead current affairs discussion programme currently broadcast on Monday evenings at 7pm

In Focus : IC’s version of ‘Hard Talk’ presented by Carl Arrindell currently broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 7pm

Politics & Beyond :  In-studio panel lead current affairs currently broadcast on Wednesdays at 7pm;

Compass: A weekly report on a major symposium/press conference or parliamentary events

Ummah Talk: currently broadcast on Thursdays at 7pm

Week in Review : Weekly news round-up - currently broadcast on Fridays at 7pm

A Week in Parliament : A weekly parliamentary review with front bench panellists from the three main parties chaired by Guardian columnist – Jonathan Steele (recorded on Thursday afternoons in parliament) and broadcast currently on Sundays at 11am.

The New Politics : A weekly panel (made up of local councillors) discussion review of events in local government - time of broadcast TBA

Between the Headlines: A five day a week morning newspaper review

‘Humanity in Crisis’ : reporting crucial issues in the world of poverty and humanitarian relief/development.

‘Absent Justice’ : Human Rights programme  - Time of broadcast to be advised

A Time to Answer’ :  on location IC’s version of BBC’s Question Time

Africa Watch – A weekly current affairs programme in which studio pannelists discuss key political issues of the day relating to countries within the African continent

PRESENTERS WANTED!

Voluntary positions, with expenses paid.

Here at Islam Channel, we are always looking for bright new personalities who can help us in spreading the Deen throughout the Ummah via their T.V. screens. We're looking for articulate, confident and fluent English speaking individuals who can create a presence on screen, for various new shows, or as additions to our existing programming.

At the moment we're specifically auditioning for a Muslim female and male presenter for “Ramadan Bites” - a daily reminder show to be broadcast every day throughout Ramdan, which aims to provide the audience with some light historical facts, some Islamic knowledge and a short Dua, a few hours before the iftar.

We are constantly looking for new personalities for our upcoming new shows and also to join our existing programme list.

Previous presenter, performance or television experience is not necessary but would be taken into consideration, depending on the programme applied for. Also persons applying are asked to dress modestly within Islamic expectations for both male and female candidates.

The presenter who is then chosen for the show will need to be available for 2 days of shooting, in which we will aim to film all their pieces to camera at our studio in Central London and in and around the city. The dates of filming will be from 29th July -15th August.

How Green is Your Deen (Volunteers)

The Islam Channel and IFEES are working with a small group of volunteers to complete a series on environmental issues for Muslim teenagers, called How Green Is Your Deen?

 

Two of the five programmes are complete, already:

Animal Welfare

Recycling

Climate Change

Water

Eco-living

 

We need:

 

·         An assistant producer

·         Presenters (training will be given),

·         Researchers to find sponsors

·         Picture researchers

·         Fund-raisers to approach potential sponsors

·         A panel of young Muslims to guide the content of the scripts and style of presentation

·         Muslim teenagers to answer quiz questions on film

 

All these will be voluntary jobs, but they will provide good experience in making TV programmes for global Muslim audiences.

Islam Channel is looking to take on a full time ‘Assistant Producer’.  As an assistant producer you will be required to archive material, conduct administrative work, location scout, contact contributors and assist in producing existing and new shows.

 

 

The Assistant Producer needs to be an excellent communicator, who is able to act decisively and sensitively under pressure.

 

 

The Assistant Producer is also responsible for making sure that effective and exciting visuals are produced, that the audio and voiceover captures the intention, style and mood of the programme and tells the intended story in a coherent and entertaining way.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Producer possesses a specific aptitude for problem solving if you want to be an assistant producer; these are the responsibilities you will need to have.

 

• Assist the senior producers in all aspects of production.

• researching interview subjects, background material and ideas

• Supervising post-production

• Co-coordinating production schedules

• Script editing or writing scripts, commentary and links

• Contribute to good working relationships and be excellent communicators

• Work well under pressure

• Plan and delegate

• Supervise the post-production process, being involved in editing, dubbing and compilation

•Islamic Knowledge is essential for this role.

Receptionist for Islam Channel Head-Office (Voluntary Position)
Description:

Islam Channel is looking for a long term trainee receptionist to work at their Head-Quarters in Central London on a

voluntary basis. Duties will include:

      1- Managing the switchboard

      2- Meeting and greeting guests.

      3- Post

      4- Assisting with mail merges

      5- General admin duties

      6- Providing teas and coffee’s


This is a flexible position and therefore if required job sharing will be accepted. Previous experience is not

required although candidates will need to have a flexible attitude and a willingness to learn.

Work within Dawah Project
Description:

Islam Channel is seeking energetic, reliable people to work within its Dawah Project.

No previous skills required although a minimum commitment of 16 hours a week or above will be needed. Work will involve both telephone work and admin tasks but training will be provided if and as necessary. This is a long term project so we are looking for people willing to commit and available for two to three months minimum. Although these are currently voluntary positions there is a possibility they could lead to paid positions at a later stage although this is not guaranteed.
