What You Need
  • Any Colour A4/Cardboard
  • Glitter (more colors the better)
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • 1)   Center 28 squares on the sheet using the ruler
    2)   Make 4 rows and 7 columns. (i.e. make 8 lines in length and 5 lines in width)
    3)   Copy the Arabic letters in pencil. Take a look at the Islam Channel website for the       Arabic letters.
    4)   Use the paintbrush and dip it into the glue.
    5)   Paint one letter with the paintbrush, then sprinkle on the glitter.
    6)   Repeat this for all the letters.

NOTE: Note this is a beautiful work of art when it is completed… It can be used for children to learn from. Hang in their room and before going to bed go thru the letters with them.
    By The Stars That Guid
    What You Need
  • Small jar (take care when using glass with small children)
  • Glitter
  • Water
  • Drop of washing up liquid
  • Electrical tape
  • Aluminium foil
  • 1)   Wash the jar and remove any labels.
    2)   Let your child mold a sheet of aluminum foil into the shape of a star.ut it in the jar.
    3)   Place enough glitter in the jar to completely cover the bottom. Fill the jar with water all       the way to the top, and add one small drop of dish soap to the water.
    4)   Screw on the lid tightly and wrap a strip of electrical tape around the edge to keep it secure.
    5)   Now, just turn the globe upside down and gently shake it!

NOTE: This is a great project for little children for two reasons… first because you spend time with your children and second this is a great opportunity to explain that Allah (swt) made the stars and people use the stars as a guide. (Another great thing to supplement this activity is take the children outside at night and point out some stars)
    Fun Play Dough
    What You Need
  • 1 cup Flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • 2 tablesoons of cream of tarter
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablesoons of vegetable oil
  • A few drops of any food colouring
  • 1)   Mix 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar in a pot.
    2)   Combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and drops of food coloring in a       bowl.
    3)   Stir the wet ingredients into the pot. Adults only: Stir the mixture over medium heat until       it has the consistency of dough.
    4)   Store the dough in a tightly sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator. It will last about four       weeks.

NOTE: Your child will see how 'ingredients' can make some thing very fun. Explain to your child that Allah (swt) made water which is the main ingredient in this recipe… tell your child that Allah (swt) sends down the rain from the sky.
    As The Sunsets
    What You Need
  • White paper
  • Crayons
  • Watercolours
  • Paintbrush
  • Water for the paintbrush
  • 1)   Take out a white piece of paper and a box of crayons.
    2)   Ask your child to draw a sunset picture. Tell your child to draw a half a circle on the bottom       of the page with clouds in the sky and a new moon in the sky. Your child might also choose       a landscape, or an under-the-sea picture, or a night time scene. Encourage your child to       colour everything in! Solid objects will stand out more than simple outlines. Use the white       crayon to draw clouds: They'll look very dramatic after the watercolour wash.
    3)   When he's done drawing, have him cover the picture with a thin coat of watercolour. For the       sunset picture, use orange and red paint all over the picture. For a landscape, he might       paint a wash of blue watercolour across the sky. Try green for under the sea, or black for a       night time drawing.
    4)   When the paint dries, the crayon will show through the paint, and the watercolour will soften       the crayon lines.

NOTE: Talk to your child about the importance of prayer and that there are five times when Muslims pray. One of those times is just after the sunsets. You may also decide to talk about sighting the new moon in the sky, which would tell us when it is Eid or the start of the fasting month Ramadan..
    Not A Leaf Falls
    What You Need
  • Old newspaper
  • A collection of leaves, grasses, dandelions, or other flowers
  • Washable tempera paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Construction paper
  • 1)   During autumn go outside with your child and collect various kinds of leaves. Pick leaves       large and small, but make sure they are still strong enough not to crumble when you touch       them.
    2)   When you get back home, spread newspaper on your work surface. Spread out your       collection of leaves and have your child choose a piece of construction paper.
    3)   Let your child pick a leaf and a paint colour, and set the leaf down on the newspaper. Have       her paint the leaf's surface. (It's okay if it's messy, since the newspaper will absorb any       extra paint.)
    4)   When the leaf is covered with paint, show her how to turn it over and lay it on the       construction paper. Press down. Now peel off the leaf and look at the impression it makes.
    5)   Experiment with different leaves and other natural stuff. Pine needles make wonderful       designs, as do dandelion faces and long grasses. Let your child make a collage of patterns       and colours until your child feels the print is done.

NOTE: When searching for leaves with your child, make sure you discuss that Allah (swt) knows everything. Allah (swt) even knows about every leaf falling, then show your child all the leaves that have fallen on the ground.
    The Spider's House
    What You Need
  • Picture of a spiderweb
  • Paper plate
  • Hole punch
  • Several pieces of yarn (each about 24 inches long)
  • 1)   First, look at a picture of a spiderweb with your child.
    2)   Then cut the center circle out of a paper plate and make holes about 3 inches apart in the       rim (using a hole punch).
    3)   Next, take several pieces of yarn and knot each at one end so it can't pass through the       holes.
    4)   Pull the unknotted end through one hole and let your child weave the yarn in and out and       back and forth across the plate to create a web. (Lacing will be easier if you wrap tape       around the pulling end to create a point.)
    5)   When each yarn piece is used up, knot the loose end.

NOTE: After looking at a spider's web talk about the Prophet Muhammad (sallahu alayhi wa salam). Discuss how the web of the spider helped to save him from the enemy when He (sallahu alayhi wa salam) hid in the cave.
