NQC Ramadan 2022 Rules
Phone-In round: The phone in rounds will last for the first 11 episodes. They will be treated as the qualifying rounds for the competition meaning that once the phone in rounds are complete no one else may be able to participate in the competition. Please note that finalists from the Ramadan 2021 competition and Hajj 2021 competition are not permitted to join this competition. Only children aged 5-15 years old are permitted to join the competition and must be UK-based. Parents or guardians must dial into the studio and give permission for their child to participate, without a parent or guardian giving permission no candidate will be allowed to enter the competition. Participants will have up to 3 minutes to recite a passage of their choice from the Quran either from memory or by reading from the book. Judges will provide feedback for every participant who called in at the end of the show and decide who will be going forward to the next round of the competition. If a participant does not get through to the next round their parent can call back on a future qualifying phone in round to try again.
Zoom round: Qualifying participants will be split over 5 episodes from episode 12 to 17 where they will recite a passage of their choice from the Quran either from memory or by reading from the book via a video feed through the Zoom application. Contestants will be those that have been selected from the initial phone in rounds and no new contestant can join at this point, unless due to withdrawals the producers decide at their discretion to supplement the numbers of remaining competitors. The chosen passage must be different to what the contestant recited at the phone in round. Judges will provide feedback at the end of each show and qualify 2 or 3 participants to go through to the quarter finals.
Quarter finals: 16 participants will be split across 4 episodes from episode 18 to 21 and will join via a video feed through the zoom application. No new contestants will be allowed to enter at this stage, however in the case of withdrawals the producers can include at their discretion unsuccessful participants from the previous round to supplement numbers if required. The contestants will be briefed beforehand to prepare 1 Surah each from Juz 30 and Juz 29 from memory. A show judge will choose which Juz they will recite from and the participant will be required to recite the Surah they have prepared from that Juz from memory. The judge will then recite 3 verses from either Juz and the participant will need to tell the judge which Surah the verse is from. Judges will provide feedback at the end of each show and put 2 participants through to the Semi-finals.
Semi-finals: 8 participants will be split across 2 episodes from episode 22 to 23 and will join via a video feed through the zoom application. No new contestants will be allowed to join at this stage, however in the case of withdrawals the producers can include at their discretion unsuccessful participants from the previous round to supplement numbers if required. The contestants will be briefed beforehand to prepare 1 Surah each from Juz 30 and Juz 29 from memory, different to the Surahs they recited in the quarter finals. A judge will choose which Juz they will recite from and the participant will be required to recite the Surah they have prepared from that Juz from memory. The judge will then recite 3 verses from either Juz and the participant will need to tell the judge which Surah the verse is from. The Judge will also ask each participant 3 questions about Tajweed rules which the participant must answer correctly. Judges will provide feedback at the end of each show and put 2 participants through to the Finals.
Finals: 4 participants will be competing for the number 1 slot in this final episode taking place in the studio. No new contestant will be allowed to join at this stage, however in the case of withdrawals the producers can at their discretion include unsuccessful participants from the previous round to supplement numbers if required. The contestants will be briefed beforehand to prepare 1 Surah each from Juz 30 and Juz 29 from memory, different from the Surahs they recited in the Semi-final. A judge will choose which Juz they will recite from and the participant will be required to recite the Surah they have prepared from that Juz from memory. The participants then need to translate the Surah they recited to English. The judge will then recite 3 verses from either Juz and the participant will need to tell the judge which Surah the verse is from. The Judge will also ask each participant 3 questions about Tajweed rules which the participant must answer correctly. Judges will provide feedback at the end and the presenter will announce who the winners are. The judges will present them with their trophies. All winners will receive a cash prize except the 1splace winner who will receive a trip to Pakistan paid for by the competition sponsors Al Mustafa Welfare Trust to see the Quran schools they have made for less fortunate children.
