It exemplified the growing influence and significance of Muslim leaders in shaping the social and economic landscape of the United Kingdom and beyond. The focal points of the discussions were effective leadership, entrepreneurship, and the challenges faced by the Muslim community around the globe. The 97-year-old, who served Malaysia for more than two decades, said: “A person entrusted with running a country should remember that it is not for his own good but for the good of the country, the people.

“You must think of the people and as we are Muslims, we have to follow the injunctions of Islam. If you do that, I am quite sure we will have good governance results in stability and peace. With that our countries can develop.”

He added: “You need good education. Not just education about religion but also education about things like sciences, so that we have the capacity to compete with others.

“And thirdly, of course, we must ensure that Muslim people are rich. In my country, the Muslims are the poor people and they are always begging for things. They don’t have money.”

“Making money is a good thing, provided, of course, that you do it in accordance with the teachings of Islam. Not by stealing, not by bribery, but doing good business and Muslim countries must have the regime for good business with them,” he said.

Only stable and peaceful countries can develop, so that leaves me quite free to carry out several projects and in order to enhance or improve the economic prosperity of Malaysia.”
